Belles on Their Toes: Here, Myrna Loy plays a widowed architect who will fight to raise her aging brood. 20th Century Fox back lot seen at its best in recollecting early 1900s America. Clifton Webb makes a concise appearance at the end. Cast includes Myrna Loy, Jeanne Crain, Debra Paget, Jeffrey Hunter, Edward Arnold, Hoagy Carmichael, Barbara Bates, Robert Arthur, Verna Felton, and Martin Milner. (89 minutes, 1952)

Strange Interlude: A Eugene O’Neill drama that displays the twisted web of the distinction between our thoughts and our words. Norma Shearer is cast as a woman who lost the love of her life when he was shot down in WWI. The movie tells of romances and marriages between Nina and three men, only one of whom she loves. It is about growing old without settling their complications. This is a consuming movie, with Shearer at her brilliant best. The cast list includes Norma Shearer, Clark Gable, Might Robson, Maureen O’Sullivan, Robert Youthful, Ralph Morgan, Henry B. Walthall, and Alexander Kirkland. (110 minutes, 1932)

Encino Man: When Stoney and Dave are digging a hole in Dave’s backyard for a swimming pool., they come across, a prehistoric man, frozen in a block of ice. When the ice thaws, the prehistoric man, they name Link, comes to life. Can Link be trained to live in the modern world?

Soylent Green: Well-intentioned but cardboard variation of Harry Harrison’s chemistry-fiction classic Make Room! Make Room! In the year 2022, Manhattan has gotten to be an congested hellhole. Charlton Heston plays a copy who while investigating the murder of a bigwig, trips onto volatile government secret which you will figure out long before he does. Cast includes Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson, Leigh Taylor-Young, Chuck Connors, Mike Henry, and Dick Van Patten. (100 minutes, 1973)

In God We Trust: Ignorant friar Feldman treks to L.A. to get cash for his monastery. This movie is a comedy that is disastrously unfunny starring Richard Pryor, who plays God. Cast includes Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Louise Lasser, Richard Pryor, Andy Kaufman, Wilfrid Hyde-White, and Severn Darden. (97 minutes, 1984)

Sing, You Sinners: Wagering Crosby couldn’t confront responsibility, in spite of of jabbing his brother MacMurray. Three siblings with different interests have a singing act. Can the other two brothers save the day when the gambling sibling bets on a “sure thing”? Includes Wesley Ruggles, Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Donald O’Connor, Elizabeth Patterson, Ellen Drew, and John Gallaudet. (88 minutes, 1938)

The General: One of Keaton’s best silent movies, setting comedy contrary to real Civil Battle story of a stolen train, and Union spies. Not as fanciful as other Keaton films, even if delightfully complete. Cast includes Buster Keaton, Marion Mack, Glen Cavender, Jim Farley, and Joseph Keaton. (100 minutes, 1984)

Down to Earth: Homer Croy’s continuation to “They had to See Paris” has newly riche Midwesterner Rogers setting an end to his family’s meaningless investing by affirming that he’s broke. Not one of Will Roger’s best film attempts. Cast includes Can Rogers, Irene Opulent, Dorothy Jordan, and Mary Carlisle. (73 minutes, 1932)
