Great Retirement Communities
You would never admit to having agliophobia – fear of pain agoraphobia – fear of open spaces or of being in crowded, public places like markets fear of leaving a safe place fear of crowds or verminophobia – fear of germs, but you probably are afraid of something. Something that most of us fear at one time or another is getting old. Aging comes with many changes…
However, one thing that will help you deal with aging is finding the right place to retire. With that in mind, I have put together a few places that you should take a look at. These range from the famous to the totally unknown. But, each has unique features that might just make you go ah!
Gainesville, Georgia
With a mild climate for all four seasons and nearby Appalachian mountain forests, this northern Georgia community is one of the best unknown retirement spots in the state. There are two golf courses, beaches in the Lanier Islands recreational area and over 607 miles of coastline. Plenty of outdoor activities to say the least.
Kailua, Hawaii
Surrounded by a bay, wetlands and mountains make this a beautiful spot for windsurfing and other water sports. This beautiful beach town is northwest of Honolulu. There are also 18 museums and 42 libraries in the area as well as 24 golf courses. Enjoy!
Great Brook Village, New Hampshire
This one will probably be hard to get into because it only has 65 homes on 20 acres. But, being in the middle of the heart of New Hampshire’s lakes region, it should be high on your list of spots in this state. It is only about 10 miles from Lake Winnipesaukee. You cannot keep children here as residents, but they are allowed as visitors up to 30 days per year. Someone living there has to be at least 55.
Cape Girardeau, Missouri
The home town of Rush Limbaugh and home of Southeast Missouri State University is a picturesque small city on the banks of the Mississippi River. There are many recreational possibilities, parks and museums.
Islandia, New York
If you want to retire on Long Island, this is probably your best bet. It is about 50 miles east of New York City and close to both the Long Island Sound and Atlantic Ocean Beaches. There are many wineries and Bed and Breakfasts in the area.
Biloxi, Mississippi
Just living here and supporting the vendors in the area will help rebuild from Hurricane Katrina. There were nine casinos running here before the hurricane and seven are back in business. Biloxi is the last home and has the presidential library of president of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis. Although gaming is the major draw, there are almost 20 golf courses and a number of museums.
Lincoln, Nebraska
Some of the best college football is played here at the University of Nebraska. There was some controversy naming the city as many who lived there supported the Confederacy. All that is forgotten now in this peaceful small city. With a number of museums, golf courses and amateur Baseball, there is plenty to do.
